Breathing Exercises

Have you ever been really bored and start paying attention to your breathing? (I might be the only one and if so it’s not surprising that I’m this weird ha!) It baffles me how I don’t have to tell my lungs to breathe, or my heart to pump, or my immune system to keep fighting. But if I start to think about it even more I realize, even though I’m not telling my body to do these things, someone else is. And that someone’s name is Jesus.

Jesus is continually telling my body to function and my cells to work. He is even telling the atoms I am made of to stay together. Friend, you and I are a masterpiece in the hands of the greatest Artist ever known. Read that sentence again. You are a masterpiece in the hands of the greatest Artist ever known. You can know this Artist. He already knows everything about you but He also wants to hear from you and have a relationship with you.

So as I sit here at work, when I probably should be doing something else, Jesus met me in the quiet of my heart and asked me to breathe. My dear girl, breathe Me in, breathe out this world. This world will try everything in it’s power to steal the joy of the Lord away from you. Whether its a fight with a loved one, a nasty person on the road, an email with not so great news from your boss, all of these things are meant to bring you down and make you bitter.

Breathe Me in, breath out this world. Take a second in those moments to just breathe. I promise everything will work out and I know that’s not always comforting. (I am a perfectionist, people pleaser and control freak all wrapped into one hot mess of a girl! Trust me, I need this advice as much as the next girl.) Next time you are in a jam and you just want to scream, or cry, or both, excuse yourself (if you can) and just breathe.

Remind yourself of this verse: “Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more important than food and the body more than clothing? Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?” Matthew 6:24-25

You are more special than a bird to God. You are His masterpiece and He intends to show off His pride and joy. (that’s you!) So the next time Satan tries to bring you down, you tell Him that your God’s got you and He is never letting go! You flip that hair and go about your day girl. Oh and don’t forget to tell your yoga teacher about a new breathing exercise you heard about 😉
