Friend, I can’t tell you how many DMs we get with people asking how to discern God’s will for their lives…where they should go to college, where they should move, who they should date/marry, when they should have kids…which job they should take. The list is endless.

But friend, the question at the heart of God’s will isn’t, “What should I do?” Rather, it is, “Do I love the Lord with all my heart, soul, mind and strength?”and “Do I love my neighbor as myself?” (Mark 12:30-31). How freeing and weighty at the same time!
Let’s take a look at six things we know to be the will of the Lord for our lives:
1. God’s will is for His children to be saved. (1 Tim 2:1-4, 2 Peter 3:9)
2. God’s will is for His children to be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:17-18)
3. God’s will is for His children to be sanctified (sanctification is the process of being made more and more like Christ, pressing on in holiness and growing in the fruits of the Spirit). (1 Thess 4:3-8)
4. God’s will is for His children to be submissive. (1 Pet 2:13-15)
5. God’s will is for His children to suffer. (1 Pet 3:17, Phil 1:29)
God’s will is for His children to obey (Rom 12:1-2) from

Another great thing to do is to pray for the things you already know to be God’s will. Pray for good motives in your decision making. Pray for humility and teachability. Pray that the Gospel will be spread. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, as Jesus asked us to. (Matt 6:33)
After you have prayed, studied your Bible and sought wise counsel, make a decision and don’t hyper-spiritualize it.
There really is freedom in Christ. And God, in His sovereignty, has already determined how to fit our choices into His sovereign will.
So die to self and live
