James: A Bible Study Workbook
A free resource to help you slow down, study the book of James, and grow in your knowledge of God through His Word.
We live in a world filled with quick answers, short-form content, and bite-sized encouragement. But Scripture was never meant to be consumed in snippets. God has given us His Word so that we might know Him, understand His truth, and live faithfully in light of it.
The book of James is rich with practical instruction about faith, wisdom, trials, speech, humility, prayer, and what it looks like to live as the people of God. But before we ask, “How does this apply to my life?” we want to slow down and ask a more important question:
What does this passage teach me about God?
This free James Bible Study Workbook was created to help you do just that.
Rather than beginning with ourselves, our circumstances, or what we want the passage to say, this study encourages us to begin with the text. As you work through James, you’ll be guided through three simple movements of Bible study:
OBSERVATION — What does the text say?
Slow down and pay attention to what God has actually revealed. What does this passage teach us about God? What does it reveal about His character, His purposes, and His ways?
INTERPRETATION — What does the text mean?
Consider the original context. Who was James writing to? What was happening among his readers? What does this passage mean within the larger message of the book? How does the literary style and surrounding context help us understand what God has said?
APPLICATION — How should I live in light of this truth?
Only after we have considered what the text says and what it means do we turn toward ourselves. If this is true about God, His character, His people, and His purposes, how should it shape the way we think, speak, worship, and live?
Our hope is that this workbook would help you cultivate a deeper love for the Word of God—not simply so that you can know more about the Bible, but so that through the Scriptures you might know the God who has revealed Himself.
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” — Psalm 119:103
The goal is not to rush through James. It is to sit with the text, listen carefully to what God has said, and allow His Word to shape us.
